This painting was inspired by power station service gate no longer in use in San Francisco. I location of the gate was in a old ship building district called the "dog patch." The actual gates size is enormous measuring at 20 feet tall and 16 feet wide. on the right panel of the gate there is a smaller service entrance for personnel and is something that is fondly reminiscent of the gate and gate keeping to the emerald city in The Wizard of Oz. My obsession with this old structure not only stems from my excitement of its scale but also because is it apart of an on going sculpture project connected to my body of work. In 2012 I began making molds of the surface of the gate in order to present it as a sculptural work of art on its own. The project is being continued to this day.
