Ready to Hang

I'm drawn to color; from rich & saturated to muted & subtle hues, I have an appreciation for them all. My work definitely tends to lean more towards the vibrant and saturated spectrum and I think this is partly to do with the amount of energy it gives me. Some works, I can go straight from tube to canvas; others are more planned and may involve sketches and even a smaller painting of the final intended size.

I don't have a standard routine when it comes to creating; I have spent plenty of time just sitting, staring at the work and my palette without picking up a brush. I draw my inspiration from nature; from other artists; from my dreams; and from what ultimately calls me to create. I believe that every artist creates for a purpose, even if the purpose isn't blatantly apparent. While I may not know why, I do know that I'm driven to create by a force stronger than my conscious & subconscious.

I am a mostly self-taught artist and have drawn for as long as I can remember. It wasn't until I took a drawing class when I was 18 at a local community college, that my ability was really unlocked. I had an amazing professor who was able to push me and unlock abilities I really didn't think I had. By trade, I do graphic design; however, my passion has always been with portraiture. I really enjoy working with watercolor, acrylic, color pencil and pan pastels. I am obsessed with drawing and painting and when I'm not at my graphic design job, I'm at either at home painting, working on a commission, or teaching painting classes. It's wonderful to be able to be actively involved with creating and sharing art; it's one of things that truly makes me happy.
