This scene is from my hike at Garden of the Gods, in Colorado. I loved how the sun was lighting up the rock formations. I took dozens of photos from this spot and from those photos, created this work.
This was one of my first works on Pastelmat paper, which I love for its ability to grip the pastel chalk. With Pastelmat, I can achieve very rich, vibrant color, almost like an oil painting.
Decades ago I took several art courses at the Glassell School of Art in Houston, TX. I took a long break from creating art but recently started up again after discovering that having a creative outlet is a necessity and not a luxury. I grew up in the Midwest, but after graduating from college with an engineering degree, I moved to Houston, TX for what was suppose to be a short assignment. I then met my wife, changed careers, and grew to love Houston, where I have lived for the past 27 years. My other passions are hiking, playing Scrabble, and being the best Dad I can be. Becoming an artist is a journey for me. I don't know where that journey will take me and that is exciting.
