Ready to Hang

This painting was inspired by the view from my hotel balcony of the pedestrians walking below. I used my signature Pixel Impressionism brush strokes to render the motion of the figure and texture of the rainy day. This oil on deep-stretch canvas with finished edges is varnished with a satin finish to protect it from UV, dust and dirt damage. It is wired on the back and ready to hang on your wall.
I am a painter who has based my popular overhead series on images from a digital video camera. The result brings together the perspective of the camera with the nuance control of light and color that can only happen with brush on canvas.
Somewhere on a bridge or a hotel balcony, you'll find me capturing video of unsuspecting figures walking below. Later, in a studio in Santa Fe, you can find me pouring through frame after frame of the video footage to find the perfect moment of weight shift, swing of the arm or tilt of the head, which I feverishly paint, covering large canvases with thick paint depicting an overhead view of a walking figure in an urban setting. My work invites you to celebrate the moment using the perspective of a camera with the subtlety of light and color that can only be captured with oil on canvas. My signature “Pixel Impressionism” brush strokes create the motion and details of the walking figure and communicate my passion for the subject.

Born in New Orleans in 1965, my work reflects the culmination of 30 years of painting the figure. I have had many solo shows in the U.S. and Mexico, have sold hundreds of paintings to collectors around the world, and my Impressionistic figure paintings have been included in juried shows at Otis College, Los Angeles, Ventura College, Orange County Center For Contemporary Art, Long Beach Arts, TAG Santa Monica and Gallery 825 in Los Angeles. My latest series, Overview, was selected as an LA Times Calendar pick, won awards at juried exhibits at the California Open and Long Beach Arts. An interview with me about this series was featured on both My work has been featured in the LA Times, Daily News, The Huffington Post and on CNN and KTLA in Los Angeles. I a solo show at Los Angeles Art Association’s Gallery 825 and was a Los Angeles regional finalist in the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series. I am now based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
