"May all beings be happy and be endowed with the causes of happiness./ May all beings be free of suffering and untouched by the causes of suffering."
I started working on this piece intending to write this mantra again and again as one would when repeating this mantra of happiness during their daily practice.
I am a Tibetan Calligrapher and Abstract illustrator. I was born on a farm in the mountains of Ladakh, India. I have studied and practiced calligraphy since I was five. My father was my first guru and since then I have learned from many masters of calligraphy. I spent a year at a Tibetan Buddhist monastery learning calligraphy from two different masters. In the United States, I have lived and worked at a Buddhist Retreat Center in the Santa Cruz mountains. It was there that I really started incorporating calligraphy into my daily practice. I have discovered that my best work comes during moments when my mind is completely "free" of thoughts and entirely focused on being present in the moment. I have been finding that my mind needs to be in a very balanced state to be able to make marks on the paper that are in harmony. This is the harmony that I strive to cultivate in my life and in my calligraphy. I am able to strive towards that through calligraphy.
