I painted a dot and it was a dot until I give it a name and then it became art, I create art from nothing just like the Gods.
I don't have an artist statement per say but I can share this, I don't get caught up too much with explaining my work, but I am 34 years old with a 4-year-old son, living on one the most beautiful islands in the world Barbados, I see the super-rich come here to experience this place I call home and its beauty that sometimes I don't see, I am fast approaching that point we call mid-life crisis lol, and it has me thinking about the next 20 years where I want to be, who would I be, do I want to continue to call this place my home, I want my work to say more and mean more than it does now,
I want my work to say something to my son when he reaches my age, I am not a religious person but I am very spiritual and I allowed my life to flow like a river, it does get crazy sometimes seeing I live on a tourist island plus we are the inventers of rum but in all the chaos, my art brings me back to home, that feeling of knowing who I am, so for me my creations is never really about the outcome or the subject matter, but the process, the tapping in to my subconscious mind, and even this will change as time goes on, because I am trying as much as possible not to have any limits on myself or my work, I should not even say my work, because it have only become my work because I have autograph it, but it's nothing else I can claim in my work as truly my own and I love it so.
Troy Damien Burgess Troy is a Barbadian self-taught visual artist. Born in Barbados on the 28th March 1983. From an early age he possessed a keen interest in art, as his older brother was a student of the great Barbadian artist Karl Broodhagen and Troy often felt as though he too were one of his students. Although he considers himself a self-taught artist, he enrolled in a short program with a local Community Art Program where he gained formal training in art and illustration, graphic designing and airbrushing. Troy has consistently participated in national arts festivals and exhibitions since 2004 where he has copped several awards. Maturing as an artist Troy has found a deep appreciation for acrylics, he continuously experiments with the medium and styles. Seeing beauty in any subject, he has no preference in what he paints; he just allows freedom of movement and imagination to give his paintings its own personality and life.
