This beach painting depicts a view looking down the shoreline on breezy sunny day. Ripples and trenches have been sculpted into the hard sand by the moving water. The tide is getting lower. A thin film of water is retreating over the sand ripples and some freshly exposed shells. Against the blue sky, wispy white clouds float by. A hint of breeze and direction are implied with diagonal forms in the cloud mist. Two seagulls stand on the shore far apart, staring into the sea as if watching for a cue, or maybe a school of fish.
Toby Daniel Jones is based in Saint Augustine, Florida. I grew up exploring the beaches and forests of Florida that inspire my paintings. Love for nature, especially the seashore, are often themes in my art. A good day for me might be spent outside birding or fishing. As a painter, I want to preserve memories from my daily life that can be reflected upon with nostalgia and joy.
