In this work, I play with gendered elements of care. A commonly-masculinized sun, combined with the fear often associated with spiders, are presented here as a singular caring entity. They nurture the planet and its verdant world tree. This work is on gallery wrap canvas with black-painted sides (the signature on the side is my birth name).
Tiramisu - more commonly referred to as Tira - is a US-born artist who grew up in the vast suburbs of Southern California's "Inland Empire," just east of Los Angeles. As a transgender person and gender studies scholar, Tira pursues matters of gender within their painted worlds. Tira's vibrant and seemingly-alien landscapes present themes of animism through the natural world and its interaction with subjects/lifeforms typically considered "inorganic." Tira currently lives in Portland, Oregon, with their partner and 3 children.
