The reason I chose the title for this piece a better patriotism is a well informed patriotism. taking the time to honestly examine in what way personal bias affects your allegiances can be a slow process.

I created this piece in 2009.

My name is Tim Strouss. I am 36. I live in San Jose California. I paint with acrylic and chalk, some on paper but mostly on canvas. I've been doing art for most of my life. but in 2008 an injury afforded me the opportunity to devote much of my time to creating. My work is very much about my life past and present. My paintings tend to be many layered and often times each layer contrasts sharply with the ones underneath it. I like texturing my canvas with different tools, sometimes cheap canvas marks easily with the sharp edge of a palette knife, I like the effect sand paper has on heavy canvas or folded paper and I like how a heat gun causes different mediums to crack and bubble. I have regular shows but seeing as how I don't drive... transporting and hanging my work is cumbersome at best. Needless to say Vango is very convenient for me and I'm pleased to be able to display here. I hope you enjoy the work! Thank you.
