This is a 5" x 7" scratchboard etching of an abandoned adobe theater in the small west Texas town of Sierra Blanca. I was intrigued by the texture of the building, from the exposed adobe bricks to the peeling paint. It made me wonder about the history of the building and the stories of those people that passed through its doors over the years. It's one of several buildings that have long since closed in this rural town.
My name is Tim Roberts. I received a B.A. in art/anthropology and sociology from Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas, in 1985, and an M.A. in archeology from the University of Tulsa in 1988. I spent several years traveling the country in support of my career as an archeologist before settling in Fort Davis, Texas. I work for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department as the Cultural Resources Coordinator for the West Texas region. In addition, I am an artist and have shown my work in various local, regional, and international exhibitions. I became a signature member of the International Society of Scratchboard Artists in 2015.
