As the title implies, I painted this piece while listening to music. Completed in 2010, this is one of just a few of my early oil paintings. I was unsure of how the work would turn out, so I chose to paint on a canvas panel for fear of ruining a complete stretched canvas. I was forced to be patient during the weeks that I spent working on this piece. When my patience wore out, it was the music that motivated me to finish.
Born on March 5, 1974 in Pennsylvania, I have been fascinated with art since childhood. Throughout grade school, I spent much of my free time filling the pages of my composition books with comic book heroes, cartoon characters, buildings, landscapes and abstract drawings. I maintained my fascination through high school, which is when I began to affectionately call my incongruent drawings "asymmetrics". During my senior year, my art instructor supplemented my art history instruction with unrestrained experimentation with every type of media that was available. Through this experimentation, I acquired a much greater appreciation for the visual arts. Today, I approach my artwork with the same youthful freedom and experimentation. Each piece still starts with an "asymmetric" - sometimes a series of them. When the sketch matures, I can fully visualize the artwork on a larger, more colorful scale. Then, the real work begins! Thank you for exploring my art.
