You are enjoying a glass of wine from the balcony of your motel room in San Diego.
It cools slightly as the sun begins setting in the west. Sand dunes and palm trees are silhouetted against the colorful sunset rays.
A 3D effect is achieved by the use of wooden twigs as the palm tree trunks. A special green paper is used for the leaves for a multi-dimensional exerience.
Water and rocks are the predominant themes of many of my paintings. I was fascinated with water as a small boy and spent many happy boating hours on the Susquehanna River near where I lived in Pennsylvania. The passion for rocks also comes from living in Arizona for 28 years. I find the delicate hues of red, orange, and brown in the desert rocks a joy to paint. Lake Powell on the Arizona/ Utah border is one of my favorite places in the world because of its spectacular, colorful rock formations. Many of the water and rock scenes can only be reached by boat. Since moving to Texas, I have painted outdoor scenes including missions. My website art gallery (ArtID.com/tedhess) has a special section on “Texas Happenings” showing paintings of missions, and outdoor scenes. My latest project is the use of 3-D effects in the paintings using plaster of paris and wood.” Ted has a BA in Fine Arts from Penn State University and an MBA from Ohio State University.
