Ready to Hang
There's an ongoing storyline in my head. I'm not quite sure how it goes and what the plot is neccessarily, but these are the characters. They are all linked in some way and inhabit this world I've created. With every piece I add a new layer to the story and a new character to the plot. Maybe one day I'll write a book about it. I see a child or a child-like person, with a sense of shyness or timidness that is perhaps caused by being self-conscience of their deformied appearance. As kids we all just want to belong and not be different. This piece is on gallery-wrapped cotton canvas. Stretched and primered. Signed, sealed, dated, and titled.
I've always had an unexplainable need to create something. I love the idea that art is a piece of the creator's mind out into tangible form. I love simplicity in art. Art that proudly displays all the imperfections and keeps a rough/raw edge inspires me. Children's art and outsider art are amazing in that they are 100% genuine and honest. There is no pretentiousness in their approach. You tell a child to draw a tree, they draw a tree as they see it. There is no clouded thought behind their imagination, nor is there any limits on their creative approach and process placed there by art "instructors." I've been told by many art students that I'm lucky to be self-taught, and I agree. I wouldn't have it any other way. Everything I do, know, and understand about art comes from pure passion and an unmeasurable amount of of frustration, mistakes, joy, rejection, success, happiness, humbleness, and literally blood, sweat, and tears. I hope you enjoy. I have been part of many juried exhibitions, including the 54th Annual Delta Exhibition, and have pieces in numerous private and corporate collections all over the country. -Taylor
