Ready to Hang
I was walking the Newport Cliff Walk on a cold wintry day in January with my nephew. I looked down and this was the still life at my feet. I loved the colors and textures of the rocks. The slanting shadows of the afternoon light made wonderful contrasts and accented the drying seaweed scattered amongst the stones. My favorite rock was the one the color of worn brick and I wondered how long it had been tossed about by the ocean at my back. Edges are painted and ready to hang with, or without a frame.
My paintings are an expression of the beauty I see in the natural world. The world is full of inspiration, so long as you are willing to look. I spend most of my free time outdoors, hiking and kayaking in the small, lovely state of Rhode Island. I never start a journey without my iPad in my backpack - ready to take photographs of scenes, details, and landscapes that inspire me. Then, when a rainy day or a lethargic afternoon rolls around, I unwrap a new canvas and begin. I work my way from background to foreground, starting with my largest brushes and laying down a backdrop of color. I move towards smaller and smaller brushes as I capture all of the details (special thanks to my iPad's zoom feature), making sure that my painting encompasses the mood that I felt when I experienced the scene firsthand.
My name is Tara Castro. I am a lifelong artist, but have only been painting for the past few years. I find that painting is the artistic medium that lets me put the most feeling into my art. I truly enjoy focusing on details found in nature - examining the ripples that swirl and surround rocks in a small stream, the way the wind catches the leaves on a brisk fall day, how light reflects off a calm, still lake. When I'm not outdoors, hiking, kayaking and searching for my next source of inspiration, you will find me at the easel, paintbrush in hand. Feel free to reach out with any questions or comments, and thank you for checking out my work!
