I'm drawn mostly to ordinary objects as painting subjects. Most of my ideas come from memories of things I grew up with; a tin of Folger's coffee, my grandmother's sewing machine, a child's pull toy. Many of my collectors will snap of a painting if they have an immediate reaction to fond memories of having the same object in their childhood. Others will suddenly see the beauty of a plain loaf of bread or a cracked egg.

I am a largely self-taught artist, although I've had the privilege of attending about a dozen intensive workshops from the best artists in the country. From them and from extensive reading I've learned the fundamentals of painting. Still life is my favorite genre, and depicting the beauty of ordinary objects is a passion of mine. Whether its a bouquet of dandelions in a glass or a loaf of bread, you don't realize the beauty inherent in the world until you see the beauty of the ordinary. I paint in oil mainly because it allows me to best depict the wonderful detail and subtle nuances of the objects. Many of my subjects are old and have lives well lived. I strive to enhance these characteristics some may see as flaws; I see them as beauty marks.
