Chimney Pond is a basin part way up the Chimney Pond Trail on Mt. Katahdin. This mountain is where most of the "through hikers" of the Appalachian Trail end their journey although a few people start here and head south. Mt. Katahdin is the highest mountain in Maine and has some very rugged terrain. It comes at the end of what is called "The 100 Mile Wilderness". It's a beautiful and wild place. This was done with quality oils on stretched linen and may be hung without a frame.
There's a compulsion to interpret visual moments for this painter. The hope is that a special moment can somehow be preserved forever. I love working in oil paints. They are challenging and forgiving at the same time. Color, texture and light are the main components that I try to give center stage. And then sometimes I just paint a simple painting without much thought at all. It's all creative process.
