This piece is entitled "Taken." It is about taking on challenges and risks, especially with an unknown outcome, overcoming obstacles, and "making it to the summit." There is imagery of the medical Star of Life, connected minds, a golden mountain range, and twisted setbacks. This piece is also about the selfless and uplifting leader - there is imagery of Sir Edmund Hilary's famous photo of Tenzing Norgay, his sherpa and companion on the first ascent of Everest. As well, there are cryptic phrases and word grids, a triple faced panoptic head, and a poem written in cursive. The colors of this piece play on the American (and New Zealander, Hilary's home country) colors of red, white and blue, with metallic blue, translucent red and cream, on either side of a black chasm. There are layers to this piece as well, it is the third iteration on this hand stretched canvas, so bits and pieces of earlier musings peek through the background.
I love hip hop. I also love the outdoors. Combine the two, and you get a portal into my world. I create hip hop music and art, rooted in the archives, history, and tradition, and loosed into the urban environment to remind us of our natural world's precedence. I use the moniker Spirit Incorporated in order to reflect the alchemy of spirit and man's earthly work, infused into my creations. But really I just like to draw mountains, letters, schematics, and maps, make beats on my MPC, and go on missions. Peep more artwork and music at spirit-incorporated.com
