The title of this piece is meant to depict the manner with which the subject is sitting. While her outfit and surroundings are relaxed, there is a way about the hardness of her expression and posture that remind me of royalty.
I created this piece because I wanted to explore the juxtaposition of a relaxed environment with a rigid demeanor in the subject. The result is a very interesting in that the woman makes you wonder what is on her mind.
My inspiration behind pursuing this piece was my desire to portray human emotion on a canvas. I had recently seen many portraits of figures at the time and was in turn inspired to create my own portrait.
My name is Sonam Mahawar and I am a freelance artist. While this is not my profession, it is my passion. Faces are usually my subject of study when I paint. It is there that the most emotion is expressed and capturing that on a canvas is my greatest joy and challenge. Art is the purest form of expression, including all mediums. I hope to express my feelings, thoughts, and ideas with you through drawings on a surface. A quick anecdote while you're perusing my profile: Being left handed in my culture is secretly looked down upon. It is out of the ordinary, non-dominant, sinful. My parents chose to ignore those ridiculous cultural notions and celebrated my uniqueness instead. I still have an news clipping my father saved detailing famous people who we're left handed. This unrelenting support is what fueled me to pursue skill in painting and drawing. I love being unique in that way. It makes me feel closer to the many offbeat and special artists that have come before me.
