I was trying to capture a specific emotion--a punch in the gut feeling.
That was the emotion I started painting with, and by the time I was finishing it I became more interested in creating cavities or mazes within the blue because I was thinking about the arteries in my dad's heart. His heart was struggling at the time after experiencing two heart attacks.

More important to me is what you might see in this painting.
Responses I have received include:
"It resembles a 'diya,' which is Hindi for candle, for the season of Diwali"
"I see the elements-- fire, earth, water-- and our degree of control over them. There is still much unknown about air and water, which is why they are represented roaming the fringes of the painting"
