A frame can be used but is not required as the design continues around the gallery wrapped sides of the painting. My inspiration in creating this piece are the colors found in minerals. What I loved about making this painting is creating the textures with knife work, various mediums, and tools.
Throughout my life I have always been involved in artistic endeavors. Although my MS is in education, I have completed art related course work. I am self taught and worksas a full time artist in my studio. My work has been represented in galleries, shows, and exhibitions. I create much of the texture in my paintings using a painting knife with acrylic paint and mediums. Different media such as lightweight pumice, sand, paper, acrylic mediums and other media create high texture my paintings. I often contrast texture with smooth glazes in the same painting. Contrast is the essence of my work. For me art is an exploration of contrasts. I believe that art need not be over-explained. Art speaks to each of us loudly, quietly, or not at all, but always individually!
