My painting concerns what surprises me as well as soothes.  I seek combinations of texture, which evoke emotions without forethought of interpretation.  Immediacy.

My background in Clinical Psychology and experience working in psychiatric hospitals reinforced my belief that fresh sight is always unpredictable.

My background in Clinical Psychology drives my creativity and influences my desire to seek combinations of texture and use of color to evoke emotions without forethought of interpretation. Much like my experience working with patients in psychiatric hospitals who exhibit unforeseeable behaviors I believe that fresh sight is always unpredictable. I started painting as a part time hobby in my early twenties after I stumbled upon my father’s set of oil paints. I began painting on a daily basis in my early thirties shortly after I became employed in several mental hospitals. I found that painting helped me process the tragic past, violence, and sadness experienced by those I worked with. It also played an essential role in my nightly routine to wind down and relax after tense days of exposure to erratic, rapidly changing, and often aggressive behaviors. A little over two years ago I opened MacSual Studio & Gallery in the heart of the Las Vegas Art District. The fundamental part of my evenings after work became the career I realized I had always wanted. Although I am no longer exposed to such extreme circumstances on a daily basis they live in my memory and can be seen in my use of art to interpret the world around me. Each day I am so blessed to be an artist.
