Ready to Hang
This vibrant painting is all about growing things, though not necessarily things we are familiar with. It seems like an experiment on another world, or maybe another version of earth plant life in the future. Nature does abhor a vacuum and hopefully no matter what we do to our environment, life will fill the empty spaces we create. This was inspired by a wonderful trip to Costa Rica, a country where everything seems to grow everywhere with very little effort. This painting is 29" x 22.5" and is framed very simply with a thin black wooden frame, ready for hanging.
Many years ago in the frozen north (Minnesota) I was a talented child drawer. That led to a love of painting that I have had all of my life. I received a degree in illustration while in high school. Later I studied fine arts painting at a MN university and have been painting ever since. I paint mostly in acrylic and watercolors but I also do occasional oil paintings. I do portraits, landscapes, and abstracts, and occasional series like wildlife on abstract backgrounds. I'm very interested in environmental causes and often do paintings about those themes. I sometimes work in a series but ultimately paint what inspires me. Originally from MN, I have also lived in San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, North Dakota, and northern Minnesota. I don't really love to move, but I love to travel, especially to central America. Sometimes I interpret my travel photos later as paintings. I now live in the Atlanta Georgia area with my husband and cute dog. My studio is in my home so I can paint at 3:00 am if I want to, and yes, that happens. I'm a night owl painter, because that's often when the magic happens.
