Curator's Note: There's an innately organic quality to this piece, as the paint flows almost like rivers meandering through land, or tree roots growing underground.

The reason I chose the title for this piece is because Exo- in astronomy means "other planet" and these abstract trees and plants look like they were grown on another planet.

I created this piece in June, 2015 at Leitworks Studio.

My inspiration in creating this piece is simply that I love color, abstraction, and the environment. Throw in some astronomy concepts and you have Exo-Trees.

This painting is done with Golden professional acrylics on Yupo paper.

Many years ago in the frozen north (Minnesota) I was a talented child drawer. That led to a love of painting that I have had all of my life. I received a degree in illustration while in high school. Later I studied fine arts painting at a MN university and have been painting ever since. I paint mostly in acrylic and watercolors but I also do occasional oil paintings. I do portraits, landscapes, and abstracts, and occasional series like wildlife on abstract backgrounds. I'm very interested in environmental causes and often do paintings about those themes. I sometimes work in a series but ultimately paint what inspires me. Originally from MN, I have also lived in San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, North Dakota, and northern Minnesota. I don't really love to move, but I love to travel, especially to central America. Sometimes I interpret my travel photos later as paintings. I now live in the Atlanta Georgia area with my husband and cute dog. My studio is in my home so I can paint at 3:00 am if I want to, and yes, that happens. I'm a night owl painter, because that's often when the magic happens.
