This watercolor is based on my photo of Blue Mound Lake, a lake in a state park in southern Minnesota. I used to live in Minnesota and this is one of my favorite views over a lake. This watercolor is very colorful, using lots of paint for a dramatic and very colorful result. I do not use transparent watercolor in this painting except the clouds. As a result this painting almost looks like it was done with acrylic or oil paint, but it's all watercolor.
It is matted and framed and currently on exhibit, so not available until November 30th, 2015.

Many years ago in the frozen north (Minnesota) I was a talented child drawer. That led to a love of painting that I have had all of my life. I received a degree in illustration while in high school. Later I studied fine arts painting at a MN university and have been painting ever since. I paint mostly in acrylic and watercolors but I also do occasional oil paintings. I do portraits, landscapes, and abstracts, and occasional series like wildlife on abstract backgrounds. I'm very interested in environmental causes and often do paintings about those themes. I sometimes work in a series but ultimately paint what inspires me. Originally from MN, I have also lived in San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, North Dakota, and northern Minnesota. I don't really love to move, but I love to travel, especially to central America. Sometimes I interpret my travel photos later as paintings. I now live in the Atlanta Georgia area with my husband and cute dog. My studio is in my home so I can paint at 3:00 am if I want to, and yes, that happens. I'm a night owl painter, because that's often when the magic happens.
