Ready to Hang
I named this Ancient Atmospheres because this is a painting about the atmosphere of the time after the earth just formed. It seems to be a version of the atmosphere we are returning to also. It's a crazy, toxic looking atmosphere, but it's also beautiful and open to interpretation. It could also be a nebula in space, or something else. This was done on a wooden painting support made for artists, using an acrylic pouring technique I have been using for several years. I added a slight "cracked" surface appearance to this one to give it a feel of antiquity and added interest with that texture. I started this painting 3 years ago and finished it recently, in 2015. It is not framed, but the edges are painted and it can be hung as-is.
Many years ago in the frozen north (Minnesota) I was a talented child drawer. That led to a love of painting that I have had all of my life. I received a degree in illustration while in high school. Later I studied fine arts painting at a MN university and have been painting ever since. I paint mostly in acrylic and watercolors but I also do occasional oil paintings. I do portraits, landscapes, and abstracts, and occasional series like wildlife on abstract backgrounds. I'm very interested in environmental causes and often do paintings about those themes. I sometimes work in a series but ultimately paint what inspires me. Originally from MN, I have also lived in San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, North Dakota, and northern Minnesota. I don't really love to move, but I love to travel, especially to central America. Sometimes I interpret my travel photos later as paintings. I now live in the Atlanta Georgia area with my husband and cute dog. My studio is in my home so I can paint at 3:00 am if I want to, and yes, that happens. I'm a night owl painter, because that's often when the magic happens.
