This carved ebony Tiki god is doing the not so slow burn. Glowing of his own mad Tiki vibe. Absolutely no Polynesian Paralysis happening here!
In the myths of the Maori people Tiki is often seen as the First Man. In American culture Tiki came into popularity in the mid 1930s with the opening of the Polynesian themed restaurant Don The Beachcomber, in - where else - HOLLYWOOD! Tiki culture has ebbed and flowed for the past 80 some years but among its devotees it is Maika'i.
My name is Shawn Shea. I am a Vango artist. Thank you for visiting my portfolio. I have been painting since I was seven. Have owned an illustration studio for many years and am now working full time as a fine artist providing the highest quality art to galleries, collectors and private commission clients. This first series of paintings here on Vango are my take on the Mid Century Modern retro aesthetic. Have always loved retro, noir, tiki sensibilities and LOVE exploring the genre. I hope you enjoy these and will follow me as I explore them and also appreciate the landscape and wildlife fine art I'll be showing, also. Looking forward to sharing my art with this community. Deep gratitude for taking the time to look at the work.
