Ready to Hang
This is another in a series of boats out-of-water, haphazardly dry docked, with an abstracted industriscaped background. To me, there is a sad beauty to the idea of these scenes of material abandonment.
I've always had a knack for drawing... After College, I began working as a theatrical scenic painter in New York. I was lucky to work with seasoned professional people who were willing to teach me many things about the trade and practical lessons in painting. Some of the projects I worked on: Faux finishing the Christian Dior board room, seasonal settings in Tiffany's and the Rainbow Room, The Madonna "Sex Book" launch party, along with Off- Broadway theatrical scenery and trade show sets. I later went into business in Florida, doing similar work on many projects, from sets for television shows and commercials to murals to museum exhibits and special events. And.. while I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything, there was always a yearning to make my own art, which is much more personal and profound. In 2001, I re-focused my energies, broke away from the business, and dedicated my energies to painting my own concepts. So that's the "new me", who's been around a while and is here to stay.
