Curator's Note: The term "Pop Art" comes from its dealings with popular culture, which is best on display here in the form of a heavy gold chain.
The series and this piece in particular is done with more of a pop art flare. Bold lines color and aesthetic. It was inspired around Valentines day and is so heavy based around intimacy. This is number sic of a fourteen piece series with the same underlying theme.
Shaneika Marson is a local self taught NYC artist. Spending the past six years working and building her name and art career its been an exhilarating ride. Finding her influences in Basquiat, Haring and Pollock among others, her pieces are a stew of styles that continue to build. Living in New york for the past 18 years street art and graffiti are also a major influence in her work aesthetically. Premiering in her first art show in early 2009 at The Brooklyn Public Library was the starting to point to a continuous journey. Garnering collectors from Germany, Italy, Jamaica and most the U.S. Last year Spike Lee and rapper Fabolous were the first two celebrities to add to the amazing spectrum of her collectors.
