Karl Staber was an illustrator by day and a prolific painter by night. As artists go, his styles changed and matured over the decades as he weaved into one style and out of another. Although a mater of technique in all painting media, he ultimately focused on creating from the unconscious mind and spent much of his time studying other great artists, psychologists, philosophers, scientists and mathematicians. Karl absorbed all he could learn, including all the information within the unconscious mind and created work unlike others of his time. All of this work is timeless and yet retro and modern and it all leaves you questioning your own subconscious. What exactly is the theme and most importantly - what do you see in your favorite pieces?
My name is Scott Staber. I represent my grandfather Karl Staber as a Vango artist. Thank you for visiting his portfolio. Throughout the 20th century, indeed throughout the entire history of art, countless artists have worked in obscurity, toiling day after day for their vision, muse, or simply for themselves. Most died unknown. A small few became noticed by respected members of the art world for making an impact or exploring new frontiers of art, yet never received the exposure or acceptance of the public. Karl Staber was one such artist. Such distinguished members of the 20th century art world as Rudolph Arnheim and Werner Haftmann had great praise for Karl and his work. Spanning several decades and exploring new territories in art, his work displays the daring and confidence of a skilled artist at his best. Prolific in his efforts, Karl left a wonderful body of work for us to study, appreciate and yes purchase from his limited archive.
