Growing up, I was always told how weird or "unique" I was for liking the arts, as well as math, so much. I don't think that anyone who commented this way was intending to be malicious, but it somehow made me feel abnormal. Of course, as I got older I started to appreciate how different my art-making process is compared to my fellow artists, so I wanted to make a self portrait that would display my acceptance of who I am to myself.

Sarah Pippins is a New Media artist who just recently earned her BFA in New Media Arts through the University of North Texas in Denton. Her gallery work, which has been shown in Denton and DFW, usually consists of video installations and interactive works, but she also enjoys painting and drawing. She has several pieces that are in private collections across Texas. Drawing and painting gives her a chance to study the beauty in every day life, or to work through her emotions and analyze her relationships with herself and others. She hopes that her art can help inspire others to search for a deeper understanding of themselves, as well.
