I have always been interested in the elasticity of skin. The way it moves and stretches so readily made me realize that flesh does not truly have a resting state; it is in constant motion. I took a series of photographs of myself shaking my face as quickly as I could before transforming it into a painting. I wanted to draw attention to the lips so that the actual position of the jaw would become a suddenly disturbing observation.
Sarah Pippins is a New Media artist who just recently earned her BFA in New Media Arts through the University of North Texas in Denton. Her gallery work, which has been shown in Denton and DFW, usually consists of video installations and interactive works, but she also enjoys painting and drawing. She has several pieces that are in private collections across Texas. Drawing and painting gives her a chance to study the beauty in every day life, or to work through her emotions and analyze her relationships with herself and others. She hopes that her art can help inspire others to search for a deeper understanding of themselves, as well.
