I wanted to do a still life of something chrome and this tea pot was perfect. It has brewed hundreds of cups of tea for me while I've painted over the years. Chrome is fun and challenging to paint because its so reflective that it has colors in it from all around that you have to add. I think this painting was very successful at showing the reflected surrounding colors.
I was born in Seattle and spent most of my life there. My start in art was cartooning and I briefly drew a comic strip for the Cooper Point Journal at The Evergreen State College. I then went into AmeriCorps for a year and finished my education at Washington State University. Later I joined the Coast Guard and used my GI Bill to begin work on my masters at San Diego University. I slowly became less and less involved in art. After suffering major losses involving family members, I began using art as a way to release pain. It worked well and I started painting and kept painting until I became obsessed with it. I knew I needed to hone my skills so I joined an atelier at Gage Academy of Art in Seattle and spent a few years expanding my skill set to allow me to truly express myself. Now I work out of my own studio in back yard in Shoreline, WA. I have an 18 month old little girl and another on the way who will join us in July!
