Light. I am intensely inspired by the play of light and shadow; what is concealed, what is illuminated, and how what cannot be seen defines what is. The contrast of natural light and artificial light are explored through my landscapes and still lifes.
Much of my work is comprised of landscapes with architectural elements and vignettes from my travels around the world. Portraying elements from my trips allows me to bring my experiences from mere memory into a viewable, tangible place. The paintings become a capsule of my feelings and sensations while abroad.
I also enjoy the simplicity of still life painting. Still life has the same affect for my day-to-day events: the music I listen to that day, the weather, and the kind of tea I was drinking. Painting and drawing marries my visual world with my other senses, bringing wholeness to each moment that I capture.
