From time immemorial, artists have always painting nice -looking women.
Painting this scene allowed me to contrast the various light reflections of many different surfaces: the skin and hair of a pretty girl, lying on a black velvet duvet, wearing shiny red satin pajamas.
The model is my daughter, who is an excellent subject. Aside from being beautiful (of course, says the mother), she would lie perfectly still while being photographed from many angles.
Famed dancer and choreographer Martha Graham once said, “All that is important is this one moment in movement.” This perfect “moment in movement” is what I strive to depict with oil on canvas. Be it with dancers or horses or other living things, I paint the power and grace of their motion, using fluid brushstrokes to show the strength and speed of galloping horses, or the elegance and energy of dancers.
