I create romantic colorful expressive paintings of nature.
My paintings are born from an emotion about a photograph or memory, and then evolved using bold, challenging color palettes inspired by the lucid experience of the moment-to-moment brush strokes. I prefer a painterly rather than linear technique, as my shapes are modeled with color instead of detailed underdrawings. The colors in these pieces focus on unexpected combinations and striking contrast. I work mostly in acrylics — working with the fast drying times instead of fighting them to develop textures and form with layers of paint. My paintings are about the sensuality of the brush against the paint that I experience and the light against the texture of the work that I can share with others. I want viewers to be challenged as they explore my work — their discoveries are as valid as mine.
Lifetime artist, I graduated with a BFA in 1994.
