4th Street in Long Beach, is known as Retro Row. It's got a lot of vintage shops and stores but its main landmark is an Art Deco gem, The Art Theatre. This building is minute in scale, but it's absolutely marvellous to see in person! Seeing it every day inspired me to finally do a drawing of it, but keeping it within that deco-style instead of my usual abstract visual style.
It had originally been an architectural drawing, that I started but had to put on ice for a while. Getting back to it after a year or so, I saw new inspiration in its form and style, but working with it, I kept to a basic color scheme, blacks, golds, greys etc. but while adding the only touch of color in the form of its main frontage/sign tower, that had graduating shades of light blue.
The most useful and enjoyable part was getting permission from the "Midnight Insanity, Rocky Horror Picture Show" group that performs every saturday at the Art Theatre to let me add their show name into the drawing!, that really made the drawing for me as it gave it that little bit of extra character :)
Please note: This piece is custom matted and ready to hang
Hello!.. I'm Rimi, and I'm happy that you're taking the time to browse my artworks. I was an architectural technologist, until a few years ago I found my passion in mixed media ink drawings, photography and sketching. I usually work on quite a few separate pieces at the same time, as I find that my drawings & designs develop fairly randomly, each piece changing and evolving as I look it and add to it, so that by the time it's done, it's quite different to my original vision but at the same time, it just feels right (if that makes sense!..)
