Ready to Hang
In this series of shaped paintings I've made the figure the container for a group of possibilities. For me painting is a process of getting out of the way. I'm drawn to a certain image, and that image comes out better the less I think about it. Through that proces I end up with images that are highly interpretive, that change over time.
This piece is cut from 3/4" MDF board. The edges are rounded and painted. An attached wire on the back makes it ready to hang.
I've been involved in image making for all of my adult life. The impulse has taken many forms over the years, but my passion is always painting. Originally from Kansas, my home and studio are now in Michigan. The evolution of my work is been completely organic. I rely on my own desire for newness to nudge my image forward with each completed painting. Consistent throughout is my love of starting open-ended conversations with the viewer, and relying on a dynamic image ot remain interesting for them for years to come.
