My non-figurative paintings are an exercise in letting go and following my own innate sense of image making. Without the solidity of a figure, they rely much more on resolution than completion. I see these as still being about the object - a cluster of expressive marks and snap decisions, a reaction happening. This series could have also been called "Reactor", an engine for interpretation and visual play.
I've been involved in image making for all of my adult life. The impulse has taken many forms over the years, but my passion is always painting. Originally from Kansas, my home and studio are now in Michigan. The evolution of my work is been completely organic. I rely on my own desire for newness to nudge my image forward with each completed painting. Consistent throughout is my love of starting open-ended conversations with the viewer, and relying on a dynamic image ot remain interesting for them for years to come.
