An original painting by Richard McKey.

Owner and primary artist at Fondren Art Gallery, Richard McKey has been a prolific professional artist in Jackson, Mississippi for the past 20 years. Rather than establishing a specific style, he has instead focused on exploring new mediums and techniques throughout his career. McKey attributes this interest in innovation and originality to his “need to create.”

Today he primarily focuses on painting, but additional interests include ceramics and metalwork. McKey also contributes to the local artistic community by providing lessons to individuals interested in developing their own creative skills. When he’s not creating, framing, or teaching, McKey plays blues and jazz music, practicing with one of his many instruments in the gallery’s makeshift recording studio.

McKey intends to paint and hone his art skills for the rest of his life.
