I chose the title for this piece after much thought because there is so much going on in this image. I settled on Obsession after I realized that every other emotion stems from Ariel's obsession with Eric has now come to a head as she meets him.

I created this piece right before my first art show in May 2015. This canvas is actually linen board that I bought from a thrift store a few years ago. The texture and aged color is so beautiful that I was waiting for the right piece to go on it. I didn't want to cover the whole thing in paint, but rather let the linen come through.

As ever, I didn't simply want to paint Ariel, I wanted to paint her in a different way. I pulled in darker base colors to emphasize her vulnerability in this moment.

My name is Raechyl - welcome to my shop! I see the world through fantasy and story, and believe the best art always comes from a place deep inside. Art must inspire emotion, and the more I paint, the more the human face pulls me. There is such beauty and expression in a face. Most of my paintings begin with textured and stained background. These backgrounds are expressive, and I usually don't have an and result in mind. When I look at a completed background, I rifle through images in my head that I've been meaning to paint until one just feels right. It is this process (or perhaps, lack of process?) that I believe accounts for my best work. If it was meant to be, it will happen! I was born in San Diego, and still lives there, though she dreams of someday moving back to London, where I studied for three years.
