This painting is inspired by the Greek myth of Icarus, who was given a pair of wax wings and could fly. In his youth and exuberance, he flew too close to the sun, melting his wings and leading to his demise.
Hello! My name is Rachel Gaudry, and I'm a New Orleans painter. My work is inspired by abstraction and patterns found in nature, mythology, storytelling, and fantasy. During college, while working towards my degree in Fine Arts, I fell in love with painting -- mostly, I fell in love with how art connects people. Since then, creativity and painting have continuously played a transformative role in my life. From working as a commercial artist and art educator, to completing an artist residency in New Zealand, I'm always amazed where painting has taken me. Thanks for reading a bit more about me and taking a look at my paintings on Vango. I'm excited to be part of this unique online community. Happy to answer any questions or share more information about the inspirations behind each piece!
