This is one of my more impressionistic pieces. It is a place my wife and I always visit when we travel to Florida. The manatee come into this area to get into the warm water in the winter time. It comes framed.
Phil paints landscapes in oil and occasionally uses acrylics as a change of pace. He was born on a farm in western NY State but moved to a small town as a child. He continued to play in the fields with his brothers and cousins. "There's a kind of spirituality when you stand in the middle of a hay field, and watch the waves of grass as the wind blows across it. Small farms are disappearing and I have to paint what I know. Painting is like breathing to me." Phil paints en plein air as often as possible. Especially when he travels. He likes to paint alla prima, (directly) to keep his work fresh, not overworked. "I try not to overthink a painting, but respond to the challenges it represents". Phil lives in Delevan, NY.
