"Doc Rickett's Lab,Cannery Row". One of my first completed oil paintings.Along with "Woman in the Garden" and"Cannery Row",the companion piece to this painting. Working on my fathers boat,an upside down 57 foot ferro cement hull, freshly backplastered, on the north east corners of Irving and Foam streets, having tied layer after layer of chicken wire and wire meshing and re-bar down onto the hull, and then bondoing the cemented hull and sanding that smooth that last Summer there at that location in 1981,I would often day dream.Gazing down at Ed"Doc" Rickett's lab between two buildings on Cannery Row,two streets below, and wonder what it must have been like...
My name is peter villalobos. I am a Vango artist. Thank you for visiting my portfolio.I am an artist from San Jose but currently live in the east bay town of Dublin California. Though I have been drawing all of my life,I actually began oil painting in 1991. The 1980's were my time playing with water colors and charcoal drawing before discovering oil paint and stretched canvas.Oil,I found, is more forgiving.Growing up,it was my father, an ex marine and minor league pitcher, who taught me to be interested in many different things,be it boxing or shooting or cars.;we would go to the drag races often in Fremont California in the early 1970's. You've seen the kids in the pits? Well, that was me. Many experiences and observations have morphed into various themes in my paintings.I began with a trilogy of Cannery Row paintings because that is where I helped my father build his schooner above Cannery Row, from 1976 to 1981,and that time, in many ways, both great and terrible, impacted me, leaving deep impressions.Currently,at this update in August 2017, I am working on number two oil painting from my dream series.... So enjoy the variety of paintings that have transpired in the last twenty five years,be it bits of Monterey's Cannery Row or great fighters from the past.- thank you.
