Artist Statement

Above all, I paint because it brings me immense pleasure. My pictures are intended to express the wondrous beauty of the natural world and convey the visual potency of the painting medium. The process I employ allows me to abstract familiar conventions of landscape painting and cultivates a sense of discovery for me, as I am never quite sure how each picture will develop. Painted layers are woven together, forging an image that evokes conceptions of time through the distortion of form and converging levels of space. The finished painting is an amplified version of the original place, like a dream or virtual presence; so close, yet so far away.
