I paint abstracted landscapes and figures, intervening between real and surreal worlds. My work seeks to evoke curiosity and contemplative thought, commenting on the fleeting nature of life and a desire to fully understand and contain it. My work represents emotional, social, and physical interactions I have encountered--as if stolen from an opened journal or shared in a reflective personal conversation.
I use multiple layers of paint in varying thickness in order to develop a sense of intricacy and depth, relating to the complexity of lived experiences. My paintings begin without anticipation of a determined outcome, so my compositions and color choice are organically created.
The paintings’ abstractions mimic the incompleteness of memory and our inability to fully understand or remember past experiences. I am influenced by how human experience relates to our surrounding environment. Exposure to disorienting or unfamiliar environments has given me clarity of thought in stressful times of change, and I aspire to model and emulate the nature of those moments within my work.
