Ready to Hang

I created this piece at a time when I was struggling with my demons, so to speak. I felt overwhelmed. The painting is about the fact that there often comes a time when you can't continue to stuff it all down and think that it's going to go away. It's all going to pour out at some point. Sometimes it dribbles out and maybe that's okay. But when it pours, it's tough. You're forced to deal. I painted this when I just couldn't hold it all in any longer. I hope someone out there will relate.

This piece comes with a signed copy of my (almost) memoir, Please Love Me.

________________________________________________

I'm a American figurative expressionist painter. I spent the first half of my adult life writing fiction, and then began painting in 2008. I'm the author of five books, including four novels. My art often includes a strong sense of character and story. My primary subject is the complexity of women. It's influenced by fashion photography and a childhood spent immersed in the high-end interior design industry. My mother was a successful designer whose work was featured in publications such as Architectural Digest and Southern Living.

To better understand some of the underlying themes and emotional content that influence my art, read my (almost) memoir, Please Love Me, as well as my other books. It can be found on Amazon, along with my other titles.

My work is a blend of acrylic, ink and pastel. I use my fingers for the majority of the work. I work intuitively with a focus on color and composition.

I’m an entrepreneur, quality management/assurance consultant to the Fortune 500, an artist, writer, and professional speaker. I have degrees in biological sciences and quality systems engineering. I’m the author of five books, and my art has been represented and shown by galleries in key US markets and abroad. My technical and creative accomplishments may seem unrelated at first glance but they all draw from my ability to utilize both sides of my brain to quickly find connecting dots in chaotic scenarios, both situational and visual. I grew up in an emotional mess and survived by actively searching out “dots” I could connect and use to move forward. I ultimately succeeded through a combination of grit, determination, and risk-taking balanced by logic and creativity. Now, I continue to search for beauty, logic, and meaning in chaotic situations and images. This focus coupled with my education and experience informs my ability to design creatively (painting and writing) as well as on a process level (quality systems) as applied to both the corporate world and life in general. My paintings are generally a blend of acrylic, ink, and pastel. I use my fingers for the majority of the work. I work intuitively with a focus on color and composition. Galleries in New York City, Philadelphia, Cleveland, California, Louisiana, Italy, and Central America have represented and shown my work. It has been acquired by two Italian museums.
