I paint celebrations of life, capturing what I enjoy on paper or canvas so that it can be shared and live on. The technique I continuously develop seeks to bring life back to the field of painting through intense personal investment and direct stimulation of the imagination of the viewer.
Paul Zepeda is lifelong artist, originally from the American Southwest. Driven by a passion for exploration of new techniques, cultures and ideas, he painted his way across the United States starting at a young age and established himself in New York City, where he currently resides. Drawing influence freely from all of art history including ancient cave paintings, religious icons, and the Modern Masters, Paul creates in a distinctive style that includes bold lines, vibrant colors and sumptuous textures made in paint, gold and silver leaf, oxidation and anything else that will make a mark. His artworks can be simultaneously playful and hauntingly beautiful, and Paul elevates his subjects to mythological proportions by capturing their essence and displaying it in a dream-like landscape. His work is collected and exhibited globally in galleries and museums including the Guggenheim, and has been featured in major publications including The New York Times, BBC News and Forbes. Paul continues to expand his influence and inspiration by collaborating with fellow artists on projects around the world.
