A piece from my series of "Naked Owls" that I have here in my studio. I completed a series of Owl Portraits who have some human qualities (and human-esque genitals). Why you ask? Well, I have no idea. But I love them.
These original paintings are executed on Arches hot press heavy weight watercolor paper with high pigment watercolors. Although I work with watercolor, I do not use it in a traditional fashion of washes. I use many layers both translucent and opaque paints to create the precise detail that I want. All of the Naked Owl Portraits Have large bleeds that I kept around the edges of the portraits. I used these spaces to clean my brushes or make notes. I loved the look so I kept the entire series consistent with the "rough around the edges" spaces. Each Naked owl portrait is attached to acid free black foam core with a matte medium to keep them strong and ready to frame.
Here we have The Naked Blind Owl.
