Ready to Hang
I paint scenes from life and from the world around me, both indoors and out. I am constantly
learning from this process, and I connect with the world around me through that exploration. Every time I pick up a brush is as much an exercise in seeing as it is an act of creation. Focusing on the moment in front of me helps bring clarity to my work. This piece was created at Turtle River State Park, ND when I was the artist in residence there in 2016.
I currently work in a variety of 2-dimensional media, including oils, acrylics and watercolor on canvas or paper. My art deals with nostalgia and the preservation of fleeting moments, using exaggeration of color and a heavy, rich brush strokes. My subjects range from the changing landscape and skyscapes surrounding me in North Dakota to visual chronicles of my gardening and pantry misadventures.
