The reason I chose the title for this piece is because one of my trademarks are the hearts, but not any heart. I make small paintings with a wooden heart and a quote on the canvas.
I created this piece as part of my new series of hearts inspired by famous artists and my favorite paintings. In this case, Mona Lisa came to my mind with a modern touch and a red heart.
The wooden heart is a hand carved piece, 3D goes great with this piece. Also the painting is on a wood panel, and has golden leaf.
Curator's Note: Artists have been borrowing, recreating, and adapting famous images in art for centuries. Here, Dania puts a 21st century spin on the Mona Lisa.
I'm a self-taught Mixed Media artist born in McAllen, Texas. I was raised in Diaz Ordaz (Tamaulipas, Mexico). At the age of 15 I moved to Monterrey (Mexico) to continue my education, where I finished high school and later obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. I began my professional career as an economist working in privately owned financial institutions where I dedicated 8 years of my life. In 2011, I returned to McAllen to start a new life with my family, and I spent several months job hunting until a proposal position at a financial institution was offered to me. However, this involved doing the same thing that I had already done for 8 years in Monterrey, so I decided not to accept it. Using my small inventory of acrylic paintings and forty dollars from remaining budget I began painting. Now I have my studio at the McAllen Creative Incubator. This is my dream job, I paint having fun and listen music.
